Overview of Key Components of a Solar System


Please note that this diagram highlights the key components we believe every customer should be familiar with, though it does not encompass every element of a solar system.

1) Modules: Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity through the photovoltaic effect. In this process, solar panels absorb electrons from sunlight, generating direct current (DC) electricity.


2) Combiner Box: This box aggregates power from several PV module strings, simplifying system management and protection.


3) Inverter/ Microinverters: Converts the direct current (DC) electricity generated by your solar panels into alternating current (AC) electricity used to power your home.


4) Solar AC Disconnect: A safety device that allows you to manually disconnect the alternating current (AC) power from your solar system to the electrical grid.


5) Main Service Panel: This is the central switchboard for all the electricity in your home. It houses the solar breakers, which can shut off power to your solar system.


6) Battery: Stores excess energy generated by solar panels for later use, typically installed on the side of the house or in the garage.


7) Router: This connects your solar system to the Internet for monitoring purposes, whether through WiFi or Ethernet, enabling data tracking and system management.


8) Meter: Measures the excess electricity you put back into the grid and the electricity consumed from the grid.
